In January, I was recognized in the NW Lawyer Magazine for my community service to the El Centro De La Raza Spanish Legal Clinic. The free bilingual (English/Spanish) clinic is offered monthly, typically helping 50–80 clients per clinic with the help of volunteer attorneys.
In 2017, I contributed over 20 hours of pro-bono representation at Centro de la Raza Clinic. I have consulted attendees with criminal defense issues, contract law, and some personal injury matters. In January, I led a “Know Your Rights” campaign at legal clinic (more details to come).
In the legal field, many lawyers only serve the clients that have the ability to pay. But when I started this firm, I wanted to be different. So I structured my law firm so that roughly 25% of the work I perform is either low-bono (low fees for moderate-means clients) or pro-bono (volunteer service).
My time at the Spanish legal clinic has been very rewarding, and I have gotten to know some beautiful people I wouldn't have otherwise. Giving back to my community always seems to open up new doors in my career. ¡Viva la comunidad Latino!
