How does self-responsibility set us free? What holds you back from moving past difficult times?
I read this quote today, written by my favorite author, John Steinbeck, and I wanted to share it with you.
In every bit of honest writing in the world… there is a base theme. Try to understand men, if you understand each other you will be kind to each other. Knowing a man well never leads to hate and nearly always leads to love.
I have been reading the Art of War, a fascinating piece of literature that discusses the art of strategy and preparation for battle (and life). I recently pondered the teaching below:
"Throw your soldiers into positions whence there is no escape, and they will prefer death to flight.
If they will face death, there is nothing they may not achieve. Officers and men alike will put forth their uttermost strength."
In this quote, General Sun Tzu discusses his strategic decision of giving his soldiers no escape route.
Taking away his men's escape gave his army only one possibility: forward.
