AI is useful in so many ways. If AI can provide you with digestable information to solve obscure problems in your daily life and answer questions on subject matters you aren’t familiar with, it would seem like a good resource to rely on to navigate the tricky world of insurance. But be very wary about relying on AI alone to help you resolve your injury claim with an insurer.
The technology may soon develop AI into a reliable solitary source for legal advice. But when it comes to insurance companies and legal claims, we are just not yet at that point. I have spoken with a few people who relied on AI to initiate settlement discussions with an insurer, only to realize after we talk that they were not aware of aspects of their claim that would significantly change the framework of those discussions, leaving potential compensation that they would be entitled to on the table. To provide you with solid guidance, AI needs to be asked the right questions, and there are some aspects of your claim you may not know to prompt AI to consider. Every case is very different, and there are often issues of fact that you would not know are relevant that make a big difference in how to best approach a resolution with an insurance company. Also, sometimes AI just gives straight-up wrong information.
The best practice is to consult with an attorney, regardless of whether you choose actually to retain a lawyer for your claim. The choice to hire counsel should always be yours. A good lawyer will not pressure you. Consultations are free.
The benefits of a consultation call are for you, the claimant, so that you are equipped with the information that matters to your specific circumstances. When you are geared with this info, you can proceed in a way that protects your best interests, and you can avoid getting caught in unforeseen traps or making mistakes that are hard to undo.
In my view, it is great to use AI to generally inform yourself about the insurance claims process. But it is wise not to rely only on that.
Perhaps this will change in the future! It is almost guaranteed to change, with how fast the technology is developing. But for now, we stand by our advice to every person who has a pending injury claim: call a lawyer and get a consultation on your specific case before you make any big moves.
